Originally known as White Oak Flats, Gatlinburg was later named after Radford C. Gatlin, who opened the area’s second general store. A controversial local store owner and part time preacher, Mr. Gatlin was eventually banished from the community. Gatlinburg was the first community in Sevier County to become a tourist destination as Tennessee’s ‘doorway’ to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and one of the south’s few ski resorts, Ober’ Gatlinburg.

Gatlinburg real estate is some of the priciest real estate in Sevier county, for good reasons.
• Nationally recognized family destination
• 10 million visitors annually
• Pedestrian City, right-of-way walkways throughout city
• Extensive foot traffic along ‘the Parkway’ or ‘the strip’

Steep mountains, surrounding the city, create steep lots with generally larger foundations and more expensive construction, but the area’s desirability drives a high demand for available land or lots to build second homes and vacation rental investment properties on.
