Wears Valley real estate listings are updated every 2 hours. Traveling US Highway 321, between Pigeon Forge and Townsend, you will discover Wears Valley (pronounced “Where’s”), one of East Tennessee’s most scenic drive areas outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Wears Valley is lined with spectacular mountain ranges along both sides of its major roadway. Several large farm fields lay amongst the valley floor, along with dozens of mom-pop shops, antique stores and small homestyle eateries. Several second homes, investment rental properties and permanent residences sit back off the roadway and disappear under the trees into the mountainsides. Traffic through the valley is average, except for spring and fall festivals which bring many visitors pouring into the area for these spectacular events.
The area was named after Colonel Samuel Wear, a hero in the Revolutionary War at the Battle of Kings’ Mountain. Wear built a fort at the mouth of Walden’s Creek around 1781 to help protect the area from attacks by Cherokee Indians.
